Dec 25, 2016 Letters
Dear Editor,
I make reference to author Andy Medas-King’s KN article dated Dec.17, 2016 and captioned “Turn of things in Guyana’s sports.” It has been quite a while since I have been stationed in the fields by choice with my independent photographic coverage of many sports and social events. Though I am not familiar with many persons, I was just wondering if the author A. M. King can further educate me and the general public with answers to some questions. I will state for the record that I have never heard or no one has ever mentioned that name ever in a conversation relating to sports.
The author in his published article stated that he would have invested 21 million dollars over the past seven years centered around Track and Field.
Is he making reference to Guyana’s Track and Field? Is the author by any chance, going under a different name, a company and which event/s his money went towards? I just can’t recall that name as a sponsor of any Track and Field meet during my photography coverage over the years.
Did the author sponsor any meet held at the Leonora Synthetic Track since President Donald Ramotar commissioned that facility?
Where exactly the 21 million dollars went to? Was it the Ministry of Sports, the National Sports Commission, the Athletics Association of Guyana, or the Guyana Olympic Association? The author also seems to be based somewhere overseas and I was wondering if it is the USA, what has been his contribution to the overseas based Guyanese athletes on scholarships over the years. I dare say to the author that I am in total disagreement with his message that sports will not go forward with Mr. K. J. Yassin as President of the Guyana Olympic Association.
A. M. King, have you ever challenged the late President Linden Forbes Burnham after Guyana boycotted the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games?
Have you ever challenged the former Presidents of the Athletics Association of Guyana, Mr. Colin Boyce, Mr. Blackmore or former President of the Guyana Teachers Union, Mr. Colin Bynoe over the years?
I believe they all had major roles with Guyana Track and Field Sports over the years. Please provide your answers for education purpose to all that are not familiar with your contribution.
T. Pemberton
