A 43-year-old woman now has to spend Christmas in jail after she was convicted and jailed for three years for possession of cannabis for trafficking, yesterday by Magistrate Leron Daly in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
The woman, Andrea Pamela Vigilance, of Evans Street, Charlestown, Georgetown was caught by police ranks throwing a bag containing the illicit substance through her apartment window.
On August 6, ranks from the Police Narcotic Branch went to the woman’s home after receiving certain information. On arrival at the premises, Vigilance was seen by the officers throwing a black plastic bag along with some transparent Ziploc bags containing something through the window. The bags were retrieved and it was discovered that cannabis sativa (marijuana) was concealed inside.
The drug was weighed and amounted to 120 grams.
When caution by police, Vigilance said that a woman had given her the bag. The two women were apprehended by police and when questioned, they denied giving the accused the bag.
In addition to the jail sentence, Vigilance was ordered to pay a fine of $180,000.
This matter was prosecuted by Police Corporal Bharat Mangru.
