Fire of unknown origin left a family of six homeless on Wednesday night at Wisroc, Linden.
According to 32-year-old Renee Bridgelall, she was with her four children in the one-flat three-bedroom concrete house at 101 Wisroc Housing Scheme when she awoke and saw fire around her.
“I was sleeping in de back room with my four children, three boys and a girl. I wake up and I see fire all over. I had to grab them up and try to run out. “
Bridgelall who suffered minor burns on her left hand noted that she and the children were trapped in the room. She claimed her husband was not at home at the time of the fire.
“I didn’t even look at de time but it was late. We ain’t save nothing.”
Dwayne Fraser, Bridgelall’s reputed husband, said the house belonged to his mother who lives overseas.
“When I got home like quarter past five the fire was already in dem children room and it was dark. I barely got home in time to save them because they were trapped inside the room.”
Fraser said it was hard for his mother when he broke the news but he encouraged her to be strong.
Bridgelall estimated their losses in millions of dollars. She also noted that when the fire tender arrived the house was already gutted but it was able to prevent the fire from spreading to other houses.
A teary eyed Bridgelall lamented that this will be her worst Christmas.
A distraught Fraser said he took his family to the Linden Hospital Complex for observation.
He also noted that all his family has is what is on their backs and he doesn’t know where they will live.
