Young players perform in Woodpecker Products annual Badminton Christmas singles

The Wookpecker Products Annual Badminton Christmas Singles tournament started on Saturday last at the National Gymnasium.
This is the 7th year that this tournament is running and the GBA is extremely happy that Ms. Fernandes of Woodpecker Products made possible, assisting with the development of Badminton and Sports in Guyana. We also thank Banks DIH for providing refreshments, a release from association President Gokarn Ramdhani informed.
The Tournament saw a number of young players in the (Juniors) Under-11, 13, 19 & (Seniors) Open in the Male & Female Singles Events in action.
Guyana’s leading female player Priyanna Ramdhani dominated both the Junior Under-19 and Open Ladies Singles by reaching both Finals and in the Open Men Singles she lost in the Quarter-Finals to Javid Rahaman in a thrilling three setter: 21-18, 14-21, 16-21.

Under-11 Boys Singles Quarter-Finals:
Jeremy Tenpow defeated Natham Nickram: 21-8, 21-6
Omar Samad defeated Demetri Lowe: 21-12, 21-12
Justin Tenpow defeated Nikhil Sookraj: 21-11, 21-11
Under-11 Boys Singles Semi-Finals:
Jeremy Tenpow defeated Avinash Ramnarine: 21-13, 21-13
Omar Samad defeated Justin Tenpow: 21-9, 21-10
Under-11 Girls Singles Semi-Finals:
Haily Choo-A-Fat defeated Mishka Beharry: 21-14
Under-13 Boys Singles Finals:
Vikash Mootoo defeated Matthew Beharry: 21-5, 21-5
Under-13 Girls Singles Semi-Finals:
Lesha Singh defeated Lathika Kendavel: 21-15, 21-19
Elesa Sangster defeated Sasha Singh: 21-14, 23-25, 16-21
Under-19 Boys Singles Finals:
Jonathan Mangra defeated Akili Haynes: 21-17, 21-15
Under-19 Ladies Semi-Finals:
Ambika Ramraj defeated Crystal Singh: 21-7, 21-1
Open Men Singles First Round:
Ronald Chang Yuen defeated Cecil Abrams: 21-10, 21-11
Priyanna Ramdhani defeated Akili Haynes: 21-8, 21-14
Open Men Singles Quarter-Finals:
Ronald Chang Yuen defeated Darrell Carpenay: 21-14, 21-12
Javid Rahaman defeated Priyanna Ramdhani: 21-18, 14-21, 16-21
Open Men Singles Semi-Finals:
Nicholas Ali defeated Ronald Chang Yuen: 21-17, 21-12
Javid Rahaman defeated Jonathan Mangra: 24-22, 21-16
Open Ladies Singles Round Robin:
Ambika Ramraj defeated Greer Jackson: 21-16, 14-21, 21-17
Priyanna Ramdhani defeated Greer Jackson: 21-17, 21-11
Several matches were set for yesterday with the remaining finals being contested.
