The driver of the motor lorry that crushed a woman to death last week Friday at Eccles, East Bank
Demerara, was yesterday charged with causing death by dangerous driving.
Lloyd Gregory Williams, 42, a father of three, of Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara was released on $500,000 bail and ordered to lodge his passport with the registry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
He was also ordered to report to the Madewini Police Outpost every Friday until the determination of the matter.
It is alleged that on December 2, at Industrial Site Access Road, Eccles, he drove motor lorry GPP 1637, in a manner dangerous to the public thereby causing the death of Seeta Williams.
He pleaded not guilty.
Williams is being represented by Attorney Nigel Hughes who told the court that his client has an unblemished criminal record. Hughes said that Williams is employed as a driver at a construction service on Mandela Avenue.
The attorney asked Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan to grant his client reasonable bail since he has been cooperating with investigations.
Police Prosecutor Neville Jeffers made no objections to bail.
The defendant was instructed to return to court on January 9, for statements.
According to reports, the woman was crushed by a truck that was proceeding along the Haag Bosch Access Road at Eccles. The truck was said to be heading out of the area when it crushed her on the spot. Kaieteur News understands that the woman was hit by the tray of the vehicle first before it ran over her.
