Dec 02, 2016 Letters
Dear Editor,
Kindly jolt me from my reverie and self-induced stupor by gradually whispering into my auditory canal that November 8, 2016 has come and gone. Do not be startled by my dazed and stupefied reaction as I gradually become aware of my immediate environment, for all around me I get the feeling that November 8 is yet to come. I turn on the television CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, you name it and even talk radio have gone on anabolic steroids regarding the bashing of Donald Trump. Although he has won the election, you are left with the impression that we are still in the race leading up to the nomination, the way the Christians, the far Right, the Left, the Republicans, school children, Libertarians, and even television announcers are attacking him non-stop, and on a constant onslaught of hate and desperation to ensure that he never steps foot in the White House. According to the haters Trump presidency does not necessarily translate into a White House residency.
What does America really and truly want? Speaking from a politically correct perspective, it is either one or the other. Either Donald Trump will make America great again, or he will destroy America. It is my profound belief that America is hopelessly and irretrievably lost, with resultant illogical and irrational thinking by the citizens.
The voting populace was neither duped nor hoodwinked as they are trying to make us to believe. Trump’s message to the people was crystal clear and simply put—we are disgusted with the establishment and tired with a Congress that suffers from inertia, and we need a leader that is capable of attacking the system by the horns to defeat it, restoring and returning the country to the people who stand for the same principles that once made America great. Every candidate had their deep faults, and Trump capitalized them enough to gain traction, and eventually the majority of delegates.
Folks have marched, protested, been verbally abusive, levelled denigratory remarks and carried out threats against other human beings, called for recounts, all in a do -or- die effort to show their growing dislike and sanguine animosity for the winner of the election. The poignant question that must be addressed is – Has there been any significant progress? What change if any has been brought about by these various activities? None!
The president elect is still scheduled to be inaugurated on January 20, 2017, when he will officially take up residence in the White House vacated by the former Black President. It is blatantly apparent to the mostly severely myopic and the profoundly moronic that the Trump haters are both impatient and clueless when it comes to politics and how the real world functions. Psalms 27:14 in the Good Book, clearly outlines, the course of action that should be taken in situations such as these, “wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord”.
Granted, President Trump will attempt in his peculiarly assertive manner to implement his campaign promises, but he will find himself facing fire from his opponents. The Democrats have already started firing the first salvo. In addition there are millions of citizens lying in wait to confront him on policies that they deem racist and dictatorial. Surely, there is no sane person harboring the notion that President Trump will subjugate the United States, herald in authoritarian government while the nation recoils in silence. There cannot exist even the slightest of doubt that Americans will just go about their everyday business and allow Donald Trump to dissolve the traditions of democracy that Americans have accepted as essential to existence.
Of noteworthy interest is the fact that Blacks are nowhere in the political toss-up let alone conversation on either the Republican or the Democratic side. Shortchanged once again! They have once again found themselves on the outside looking in. Gone are the rousing speeches especially in churches that caused them to feel good but never made them go out and “do good” for themselves. Let’s face the fact- politically the Black voters are obsolete. Politically, Black voters are obsolete, seemingly no longer needed, and in some cases, no longer even wanted. Who will they turn to now that it’s all over and President Obama is on his way out? Martin Delany points out in his book, “The Political Destiny of the Colored Race on the American Continent that “no race can be free who themselves do not constitute an essential part of the ruling element of the country in which they live. The freedom of no man is secure who does not control his own destiny. Where is destiny leading them now?
Unless a critical number of Black people are organized and who are collectively willing to leverage their dollars as a trump card against a political system that has no regard for them, then Blacks are doomed and stumped as a concern in public policy. Strange but true, hate has become America’s new form of entertainment.
