Three men were yesterday charged and placed on $250,000 bail each for allegedly raping a
20-year old girl of Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam.
Charged were two brothers, Rayon Scott, 24, of Bamboo Street, Rose Hall Town, Berbice; Sherwin Scott, 27, of the same address; and Wilton Leps, 27, of Albion, Corentyne, Berbice.
The men were not required to plead to the indictable charge.
They are to make their next court appearance at the Albion Magistrate’s Court on December 18, 2016.
According to information, the 20-year-old of Angoy’s Avenue was at a popular club in New Amsterdam on Saturday, October 23, 2016. She reportedly left at approximately 4:30 am.
After leaving the club the three men allegedly pulled up with a White Spacio and asked her if she wanted a “drop”- she agreed.
Information stated that she was promised to be taken home but while on the journey the men claimed they had to take someone to Corentyne.
Instead, the men allegedly took her to an abandoned house in Albion Road, Corentyne, Berbice where she was stripped and sexually assaulted.
She stated that she managed to flee from the house and flagged down a truck driver who was passing at that time. He eventually took her to the nearest police station.
Whilst there she was told by the lone rank at the station that she could not be accompanied to
the hospital. Neighbours nearby the station intervened and assisted the traumatized young woman with clothes and also accompanied her to a private hospital where she was turned back and sent to a public hospital.
There she was examined and the matter was reported at another Police Station. The men were subsequently located and arrested.
