Oct 20, 2016 Letters
Dear Editor;
I read Freddie’s “Craig is gone; class and colour go on” of Oct 17, 2016 and even though I had resolved to stay my pen and hold my tongue on matters concerning the GNBA (at least until the end of the Board of Inquiry), there are a few misconceptions harboured by Freddie that I must clarify before it fuels further misconceptions. Freddie seemed to be saying (the way he puts it) that the Prime Minister is against rescinding the Broadcasting Licenses handed out by the former president. This impression of his is not on point. There are two things to consider.
One, the Prime Minister expressed an impatient desire for new licenses to be issued within the shortest possible time. This is not the same as being against revocation of existing offending ones. An expression for the issuance of new licenses should not translate to mean a desire for the previously objectionable distribution to stand. Two, the Honorable Moses Nagamootoo has shown an aversion for interference in the work of the Authority and would not intervene to have the said licenses rescinded. Again, this is not the same as not wanting the offending licenses revoked.
In fact the entire Board had agreed very early that the distribution was obscene and created an uneven “broadcast-scape.” The preference however, was to go the route of reorganising the entire structure in keeping with a fairer and more transparent distribution regime. This coupled with legal advice received and indeed sensible realignment of the landscape, suggested that we could not just barge in and kick broadcasters off air, as such, a complete system review was embarked upon.
That process was singlehandedly stymied, derailed and delayed by a known arrogant and self-conceited individual wallowing in prejudice. Out of respect for the work of the eminent Brig. Rtd. Joe Singh I will have to stop here. Nevertheless I hope this serves to straighten the kinks of misconceptions held by my friend Freddie.
Leonard Craig

Leonard stop parsing words.
The PM ran with a team that advocated the revocation of licenses prior to May 11,2015. Seventeen (17) months later, mum’s the word.
