Sherry Mingo, a Guyana Power and Light Inc (GPL) employee was on Friday placed on $20,000 bail, on a charge of assault. She had appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Faith McGusty.
According to police report, on September 21, last, at St. Margaret’s Primary School, Georgetown, Mingo, 42 of Lot 90 Sideline Dam, Buxton, East Coast Demerara, unlawfully assaulted Daniel Williams, 8, so as to cause him actually bodily harm.
On the day in question, the mother of two went to the St. Margaret’s Primary School and assaulted the schoolboy, after she observed him fighting with her son. She approached the lad and slapped him with her hand on his left side cheek. As a result, her hand print was left on the child’s face.
The police were later summoned to the school and Mingo was arrested.
An attorney for the defendant asked for reasonable bail. The lawyer pointed out that her client is a mother of two and confidential secretary at GPL. She said that Mingo has no prior matter before the court.
Police prosecutor Seon Blackman had no objections to bail.
Magistrate Faith McGusty placed Mingo on a bond to keep the peace pending the outcome of the matter.
The matter has been adjourned to October 14.
