First Lady, Mrs. Sandra Granger, was yesterday paid a courtesy call by Ushers of the National Cultural Centre at her office. The visit facilitated discussions by the group to provide care and cheer to the elderly residents
in Guyana, particularly those who reside in senior citizen homes and other care facilities.
The group said that the purpose of the visit was mainly to seek assistance from the Office of the First Lady in light of the fact that Mrs. Granger has focused her programme of work on vulnerable populations, including the elderly.
According to representative of the group, Glynis John, their main focus is “to extend our care not only at the Cultural Centre but also [in] homes because we saw how much assistance the elderly need. That is what really motivated us to help others,” she said.
Health and wellness, as well as physical therapy are some of the areas the group intends to focus on.
Mrs. Granger said that she met with the group of women and discussed what training could be provided since her office has started an initiative on Care for the Elderly workshops.
