Dear Editor,
If you thought that Carol Sooba was arrogant and repugnant during her tenure as Town Clerk, think again, Royston King “takes the cake” for this sort of behavior. Many people felt sorry for him when he was placed in handcuffs and brought before the court, for charges during the last administration. But now I guess those people must be having second thoughts about their misplaced sympathy. This man presents a picture of arrogance and his tyrannical display portrays him as a heartless man without a human face, he behaves as though he is a “King” and we are all his servants.
The holding of Local Government elections which was supposed to end the dictatorial behavior at City Hall has so far proven ineffective. King’s highhanded removal of the vendors has made Robeson Benn look like an angel. If you drive around Georgetown today “after the Jubilee” you will find the trenches on Vlissengen Road once more overtaken with weeds thus, preventing the Church Street canal from draining properly. Also many of the gutters and alleyways are once more consumed with bush.
Cleaning the city is not a one off thing but must be done on a scheduled and regular basis if we are to maintain a clean city; this is where King should be focusing his efforts. The “White Elephant” car park on East Street, the controversial Parking Meter contract, the indiscriminate removal of vendors, the waste of funds in constructing unnecessary structures in Merriman’s Mall, are all part of King’s legacy which is shaping up to be a catastrophe.
