A mason who is alleged to have killed his aunt after robbing her of $10,000 cash was yesterday remanded to prison. Kevin Mohan, also known as ‘Chucky’, 22, of 315 Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara was arraigned for the capital offence of murder, when he appeared before Magistrate Zamilla Ally-Seepaul in the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court.
Mohan was not required to plead to the charge which alleged that on September 4, he murdered Anita Mohan, 48, during the course of a robbery.
Clad in a filthy white T-shirt and a pair of jeans, the accused denied killing the woman and told the court that police ranks had beat him to confess to the crime.
“Me guh murder meh own aunty meh does live wid?.Me nah know nothing about no murder.” Mohan claimed that police officers gunbutted him and lashed him with a chopper to sign a statement. “Dem strangle me and put black bag over me head,” the unrepresented accused said.
When asked by the Magistrate if he was ever charged before, the accused told the court that he currently has a matter before the Leonora Magistrate’s Court for assaulting his girlfriend.
Police Prosecutor Sherlock King indicated that investigations into the matter are complete.
The case was transferred to the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court for October, 28.
According to reports, Anita Mohan, called ‘Sandra’ a vendor was found lying in pool of blood on the lower flat of her home located at the abovementioned address by her 27-year-old son Intiaz Khan, her only child.
A post mortem examination performed on the woman’s remains revealed that she died from multiple injuries.
