Five bandits carried out a daring mid-morning robbery of a grocery store at Onderneeming, Parfait Harmonie, yesterday. According to reports, the incident occurred around 10:30 hrs when a male approached shop owner Farrah Mohamed to buy a five-gallon bottle of water.
As Mohamed opened the shop’s grill to sell the ‘customer’, another man carrying a gun rushed up to her. Three other men appeared and took Mohamed inside where they dealt her several blows about the body after duct-taping her.
It was reported that of the five men, three were armed. The woman was robbed of an undisclosed sum of cash and jewellery.
According to her son, he was standing outside when the men entered the store. Upon realising what they were up to, he ran away in an attempt to raise an alarm in the community. However, his efforts proved futile as the men were gone before any assistance could have been offered.
The men reportedly made good their escape using a route 48 minibus.
