Local charity organisation, the Bri-Bac Foundation, partnered with several other entities and individuals to donate school supplies to 90 children from the communities of Tucville, Meadow Bank, Sophia, Durban
Backlands, Lodge and even as far as Buxton on the East Coast of Demerara.
The foundation has been doing this charitable exercise since 2003 and started off by assisting 11 children, that number has now grown as businesses such as Steve’s Jewellery, Swansea, Global Seafood, cricketer Leon Johnson, Impressions and others have come on board the initiative.
Brian Backer, the founder of the Bri-Bac Foundation said that volunteers would usually go out into the communities and assess the needs of each child. After the survey is done, the foundation sends out requests for specific items needed.
The supplies when received would then be placed into a backpack for each individual child according to their various needs.
According to Backer, supplies would vary from school uniforms to shoes and stationery, along with a backpack for each child.
The foundation targets children aged three to 15, and it is a custom for the supplies to be handed over the weekend before school reopens.
The handover was done on Sunday, at Jamoon Drive, Lodge Housing Scheme in the presence of parents, and representatives of the various companies.
Please share this to every Guyanese including your house cats.
