Dear Editor;
Several female nurses attached to the Suddie Hospital are engaged in the selling of home made food items at the institution especially in the day while on duty during normal working hours.
The practice is apparently being done to augment their income in breach of employment conditions and from mounting public concerns it was considered to be totally wrong and improper.Much slackness and lack of proper supervision at the Administrative level is evident for this to happen when such an ugly situation should have been nipped in the bud.
Instead, with an increase in what seems to be a lucrative business for the nurses so involved, it will obviously now become even more difficult to bring under control having regard to the fact that a stitch in time could save nine.
It is all time important for nurses to be confined to their operations in the line of their duty so that the interest of patients can best be served and to keep “extraneous” activities away from their job.
Some measure of concern should be given to a canteen operating in the compound contributing to a hefty rental to the institution with the unfair competition posing a threat to the survival of this business entity.
An imminent closure to the canteen will be inevitable unless immediate steps are taken to rectify this anomaly once and for all.
Concerned nurse
