The decomposed body of an unidentified man was fished out of the Puruni River, Region Seven, on Tuesday night, after it was discovered floating in the water earlier in the day.
Kaieteur News understands that passersby noticed the remains of a man floating in the river and subsequently informed the police.
Ranks went to the scene Tuesday night and removed the badly decomposed body which is now at Bartica.
Clairmonte David, who was at the scene, told this newspaper that when the remains were pulled from the river, no one could have identified the person and suggested that it might have been someone from another village.
Meanwhile, Divisional Commander, Ravindradat Budhram said that a Post Mortem examination is expected to be done today to ascertain the cause of death.
