The Shariff Stable took control and showed who is boss at the President Cup. Be it
the President’s Cup or Guyana Cup the script was very much the same as Princess She Not continued its dominance with another telling victory to win the feature A and lower event at the ‘Real President’s Cup’ Horse Race meet. The animal made sure that its quest to be crowned queen of the track is assured as it whipped a top notch field for another gate to pole pounding at the Rising Sun Turf Club, Arima Park, West Coast, Berbice last Sunday.
Watched by a large crowd that included Minister of State Joseph Harmon, who for the second year stood in for his Excellency President David Granger who was unavoidably absent, the animal showed them who is boss.
With the crafty Trinidadian Jockey Nicholas Patrick again on the perch, Princess She Not was out of the starting gate in a flash and was soon in the lead in the 1400M event. With a top notch field that included Scores Even, CP Got Even, Lady Budapest, Jack In MY Style and the newly imported Brave Sky and Light Up Canada chasing. Princess She Not made them work. Defending champion Just call me Boss pulled out of the event.
With Patrick spurring her on Princess She Not was briefly challenged. However, there was no stopping the new queen of the track as she galloped away down the homestretch for a handsome win in the end with stable mate Plum Plum ridden by the Jamaican jockey Brian Blake speeding through for second in a dominant performance. Jack in My Style and CP Got Even were the others that placed.
Plum Plum had earlier given the Shariff the perfect start in the day’s first event as it exerted dominance with an easy win in the E and lower 1400M event. With Patrick on the hunch the animal raced away with the $600,000 money and trophy as the others in It’s My Choice, Lady Budapest and Because I say So had no choice but to take up the other positions.
Keep on Swinging ridden by with Trinidadian Padmore and stable mate Red Rocket of the Jumbo Jet stable took the top two positions in the G and Lower 1400M race ahead of Big Man Bass and Campador.
It was another win for the Shariff connections as Settling Star with Patrick in the saddles opened a sizable lead to take the H and Lower 1400M event from Quiet Strom, Cat Messiah and Quiet Dancer.
Seven Dust of the James stable with Colin Ross the jockey, took flight early as it dusted the field to win the two year old 1100M Guyana Bred race ahead of King Stanley, Genuine Risk and Royal Jet.
Red Jet of the Shamsundar stable with Wills on its back burned up the track early to win a close race in the J class 1100M event from a fast finishing Liquid Lion with Golden Kiss and Party Time rounding out the money.
Red Region of the Baker Stable with Wills in control was in winners’ row in the L class open 1100 M race.
Blondie of The Ramcharitar stable with Winston Appadhu on its back was sharp as it raced away with the L class maiden 1100M event from Dirt man, Ebola and Something Special.
For its three wins and a number of other placings, the Shariff Stable was undoubtedly the champion stable on show.
Trinidadian jockey Nicholas Patrick was the champion jockey on show. The champion trainers were Glendon “Grumps” Sooklall and Zahir Shariff of the champion Shariff stable.
The police led by Assistant Superintendent Joshua Harvey John and Inspector Cynthia Kelly were once again commended for a job well done.
Over $10M were up for grabs and some 80 horses took part in the day’s event.
Please share this to every Guyanese including your house cats.
