When the Guyana Sports Shooting Federation / COMPUSERV of Plantain Walk, Vreed-en-Hoop, West Demerara sponsored Steel Challenge 3-stage competition came to an end on Sunday afternoon last at the Timehri Rifle Range, Yarrowkabra, Linden Soesdyke Highway, emerging as the top shots in the Limited and Production categories were Ryan McKinnon and Andrew Phang.
McKinnon who has dominated Steel Challenge competitions from its inception seems like he would be enjoying such status for a long time with another commanding shoot.
He set himself apart in the Smoke and Hold, Showdown and Roundabout Stages which saw each competitor shooting five strings at each stage with the best four scores at each being calculated to determine the best shooters.
McKinnon’s overall total was 57.08 which saw him taking home the winner’s trophy ahead of Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon 67.68, Pravesh Harry 74.57, Romesh Latchana 79.08 and Shawn Smith 83.09. The 4th and 5th place attracted medals while the top three were rewarded with trophies.
Phang’s winning score was 88.27 with second placed Michael Blake tallying 90.37 followed by Rajiv Latchana 102.20, Odel August 129.08 and Garfield Newton 134.94 to close out the top five.
Managing Director of COMPUSERV Romesh Latchana, who was also a competitor, thanked his colleagues and the GSSF for affording them the opportunity of being a sponsor on the day. He also complimented all the participants for showing up and braving the very humid conditions.
Federation President Persaud-McKinnon expressed gratitude to the sponsor and the competitors for making the day an enjoyable one.
