Steven De Nobrega provided the many fans that turned to witness the Aruwai Regatta with excitement as he dominated his rivals, winning several events on Saturday. He first carted off the 125-450cc open which was sponsored by Courts, pocketing $60,000 for his efforts.
Keiton Dugan and Ravin Ramcoomar placed second and third respectively; they received $30,000 and $20,000. De Nobrega was again in winners’ row winning the second event which was sponsored by the office of the Prime Minister, while Conroy Cox took the runner up spot and Dugan third in that order. That event fetched a first prize of $30,000, while the runner up collected $20,000 and third place $10,000.
Nobrega found some competition in the third race sponsored by Digicel as he trailed Cox for one and a half laps. This proved to be one of the most exciting races, but De Nobrega kept his calm to win the event ahead of Cox; Jardine placed third.
De Nobrega then claimed the fourth race which was sponsored by Aruwai; Dugan and Jardine finished second and third respectively. De Nobrega dominated the next three races, while Dugan and Jardine placed second and third respectively in those events. These events were sponsored by Prakash and Sons General Store, Pandit Service Station and Imam and Dickie Yassin.
Prior to the event, Proprietor of Aruwai Resort Chunilall Baboolall thanked the sponsors, fans and organisers and promised to expand the event in the future.
The event was attended by Bartica’s Mayor Gifford Marshall and Regional Chairman Mr. Gordon Bradford.
Bradford congratulated the organisers and added that he would be supportive of anything that positively showcase region seven.
The event concluded yesterday.
