Vigilante killing at Pearl….Two licenced firearm holders arrested
As the investigation continues into the death of 21-year-old Seon Clarke – an alleged bandit who was shot

dead, reportedly by residents in Pearl, East Bank Demerara – the police have arrested two licenced firearm holders.
Acting Commissioner of Police David Ramnarine made this disclosure at a press conference held on Friday.
Clarke was shot dead two Saturdays ago while a friend of his was beaten by villagers after the two men had managed to elude the police earlier in the day.
It is reported that the two men had plotted to rob a supermarket in Sarah Johanna, East Bank Demerara, but their plans were quashed when the police showed up.
Clarke’s friend subsequently led police to where they had stashed a weapon and two cell phones.
The police said that the young man admitted to being in Clarke’s company and took investigators to a location in Pearl where he handed over a .380 Beretta pistol with six matching rounds.
According to the police, about 14:00h on August 20, last, Clarke and an accomplice went into a grocery store at Sarah Johanna and were behaving suspiciously. The proprietor observed their behaviour and made his way to the public road and alerted a passing policeman.
The police summoned other ranks, but the two suspects spotted the lawmen and fled into the bushes nearby.
“During the process, two loud explosions were heard. A search was conducted, but they (the suspects)

were not found,” the police said.
However, around 22:30hrs, members of the community spotted the men on the Pearl Public Road and apprehended them, during which time it was alleged that one of the persons shot Clarke, while others inflicted a beating on his accomplice.
Describing the two suspects’ actions earlier in the day, one eyewitness said that “a blue car drive up and two ah dem jump out and one run through the dam and jump the fence behind the shop, while the other went into a grocery store at (Sarah) Johanna.”
The eyewitness added that “the owner see dem and run out hollering fuh help and when people start come out the car driver (of the suspects’ car) drive away and left dem. They run down the dam and hide in the bushes.”
Later that night, another eyewitness said that, “residents spot dem on the Pearl Public Road. I see dem crawling in de bush like real, real soldiers and dem been ducking when lights come close and one of the villagers fire a shot and if you hear how the bandit holla.”
Meanwhile, no one has been arrested in the matter at North Ruimveldt, Georgetown where two alleged bandits were severely beaten and apprehended after they broke into a resident’s home and demanded cash and jewellery.
Clarke’s accomplice
According to Ramnarine, the police have not been able to get any link to members of that community.
For both matters, the acting Top Cop said that the investigations are ongoing.
And the recent shooting at Tucville, Georgetown where a licenced firearm holder shot and killed Colin Perreira a father of one and injured 22-year-old Gail Ann Chacon has also captured the acting Commissioner’s attention.
The incident is one he deemed a “murderous murder.”
“This Tucville matter disturbed me greatly. I can’t understand how we make these levels of appreciation so shallow,” the acting Top Cop stressed.
The police have charged a Perry Street, Tucville contractor with the murder. The charge was reportedly instituted late Friday. The accused is scheduled to appear in court tomorrow.
Perreira, of Barr Street, Kitty, and Chacon, were shot last Tuesday night, shortly after reversing a car onto the contractor’s bridge.
Perreira sustained gunshot injuries to the chest and abdomen and succumbed at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation. Chacon was reportedly shot in the back and hand and is currently hospitalized.
