Guyana Defence Force’s (GDF) Patrick King leaped into the record books of the Boyce & Jefford Track and Field Classic yesterday with a second round fifth attempt mark that wrested the Long Jump title from long-time rival, Linden’s Winston Caesar.
King leaped to 6.88m to better Caesar’s 6.86m mark in a competitive second round jump off that ignited those who paid attention to the fierce rivalry in perfect conditions for athletics at the Mackenzie Sports Club Ground in Linden.
King replaced team-mate, Leon Bishop’s 2010 mark of 6.72m. Soldier, Lorex Stewart (6.61m) took home the bronze medal in the event that carried a total purse of $100,000 that was divided with the winner getting $50,000; second $30,000 and third $20,000.
