The 2016 edition of the annual Bush Lot United Sports Club and the Bush Lot Rising Stars annual cricket academy began on Monday at the Bush Lot Sports Complex ground. The activity is set to run for 14 days.
During the camp the youths will be thought basic cricketing skills which will include both theory and practical aspects of the game. The programme also caters for the developing of their interpersonal skills and relationship.
They would be lectured in HIV / Aids Prevention, Alcohol and Drug Abuse, Physical Fitness, Domestic Violence and Career Choices among other life skills.
The practical sessions will entail showing the youngsters the various ways in batting, bowling, fielding, catching, throwing, wicket keeping and running between the wickets. The youths are also expected to be schooled in discipline, etiquette, good table manners and general education.
Physical fitness is also expected to be an integral part of the sessions.
According to the organisers the main aim of the programme is to have the youths better able to appreciate the rules and regulation of the game, improve their knowledge and skills and understand general sportsmanship and have a better human relationship with others and improve their discipline generally.
The importance of keeping the youths away from the ills of society, while at the same time offering them an alternative by providing training in a sport and counseling in various life skills.
The Organizers would like to express gratitude to Mr. Feroze Isahawk of Feroze Service Station and HI-Powa Sound and the New Building Society (NBS) Rosignol Branch for their timely gesture and for recognizes the importance of being a good corporate citizen. Also on board is the Union – Naarstighied District Council in which area the two sports clubs are located.
