Magistrate Fabayo Azore ordered a 19-year-old unemployed man to pay $5,000 fine and serve
six months of community service, after he pleaded guilty to having six grammes of cannabis sativa (marijuana) in his possession.
On August 10, at Old English Mines, Upper Demerara, Tyrone Williams was found with the illicit substance by police.
Police Prosecutor, Deniro Jones related that police ranks were on patrol in the area, when they observed Williams acting in a suspicious manner. He said that Williams was stopped and a search was conducted on his person and the drug was found in his left side pants pocket.
According to the prosecutor, Williams was told of the offence committed and later taken to the station, where the drug was weighed in his presence.
Williams was instructed to perform his community service at the Linden Magistrate’s Court twice weekly.
