Guyana had three semi- finalists in the Men’s and Women’s Individual draw of the 24th Caribbean Squash Championship in Trinidad.
However, none of the three were able to qualify for tonight’s finals. Both Mary Fung-A-Fatt and Ashley Khalil went down in straight games to their Bajan opponents. Fung-A-Fatt lost to defending champion Karen Meakins and Khalil to current U-15 Junior Girls Champion Meagan Best.
Sunil Seth, who was in the men’s semi-final, was on path to upset five times defending champion from Jamaica Chris Binnie. But at 2-2 in the fifth Seth twisted his ankle and had to retire. He is probably out for the team event of the tournament, further hampering Guyana’s chances of claiming the overall title.
Guyana begins its quest for the overall title tomorrow as the veteran’s team category gets on the way. Guyana is represented by Alwyn Callendar, Jojo Mekdeci, Juanita Fernandes and Ramon Chan-A-Sue. The Men’s and Women’s Team event, begins on Tomorrow.
Last Evening results:
