-on board feature ‘A’ Class event

Recognised for its unwavering support for horseracing across the country, beverage giants Banks DIH kept its reputation intact after confirming sponsorship for Sunday’s 10th Annual Guyana Cup Meet, scheduled to be staged, at Port Mourant Turf Club in Corentyne, Berbice.
Yesterday, during a simple ceremony that was conducted at the Company’s Head Office, Thirst Park, repreentative of the entity Shenisa Fredericks handed over a cheque for an undisclosed sum and trophies for the feature ‘A’ Class event to Race Co-ordinator Compton Sancho in the presence of Events & Sponsorship Manager Mortimer Stewart.
Stewart in his remarks spoke of the Company’s continued support for the sport and pledged further assistance in the future.
He added that they are extremely satisfied with the organisation of the event, adding that because of the transparency and accountability aspects of the Meet, they had no hesitation in getting on board.
Another factor that must have swayed the beverage giants support for the event is the impact that it has on the tourism sector with many visitors expected to arrive for the occasion.
Stewart stated that the event provides a good opportunity for them to market their products that are usually well represented at the Meet.
Sancho, who responded on behalf of the Organisers, thanked Banks DIH for its unfaltering commitment to the sport, informing that they’ve been amongst the most consistent sponsor of horseracing in Guyana.
He said it is such support that has enabled the sport to thrive and enjoy large spectator appeal at every level.
Commenting on the track conditions, Sancho disclosed that the inclement weather has not affected preparations and the Track Steward and Staff are working feverishly to ensure that come race day the track will be conducive for exciting racing which is what turfites really enjoy.
He said all systems are in place to ensure that the thousands of fans that are expected to attend the massive event enjoy a wonderful day of racing and a positive legacy left.
He informed that Nand Persaud & Company has added its name to the list of sponsors and will be having two entries in the feature event namely Brave Sky which has been acquired from the USA and Golden Blue Echo.
The feature ‘A’ C;ass carries total prize monies that exceed $8million and among the other horses listed to compete are: CPGot Even, King Knight, Just Call Me Boss, Score’s Even, Princess She’s Not, Don’t Blame the Jockey and entries from Suriname as well.
Sancho revealed that a large contingent of turfites from Suriname along with visitors from the USA, Canada, Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago are anticipated to be part of the day’s activities.
Co-ordinator Nasruddeen Mohamed Jr. in an invited comment said he expects the day’s races to be exciting, adding that they are pulling out all the stops to make it a memorable event.
