The nude and bound body of a 53-year-old Herstelling man was found in a wardrobe in his Herstelling, East Bank Demerara home at around 23.30 hrs last night.
The body of Terry Lakhan was discovered by his downstairs neighbour at his Back Street, Herstelling apartment. His legs were tied and he also appeared to have been strangled.
The neighbour said that she was relaxing at home when she heard strange noises coming from Lakhan’s upstairs apartment. She then heard someone opening the gate and on looking outside, saw a strange man leaving the yard with a bag.
She immediately became suspicious and on checking Lakhan’s apartment, observed that all the lights were off. She subsequently tried the front door and found it open. Upon checking the apartment, she noticed that several items were missing. As she continued her search she found Lakhan’s nude body in his wardrobe. This publication understands that pictures and pills were strewn around Lakhan’s body.
One relative told Kaieteur News that she got a phone call from a neighbour and she immediately left her West Ruimveldt home and rushed to the scene. Upon arriving, she was informed of the discovery.
Other relatives surmised that the stranger who was seen leaving the yard was known to the victim. Neighbours said that Lakhan was seen at a Chinese restaurant imbibing earlier in the night.
