A man accused of breaking into the home of Deoraj Jagdeo, was yesterday jailed for 12 months on a charge of break and enter and larceny by City Magistrate Fabayo Azore.
Michael Hyles, 43, of Lot 173 Campbell Street, Albouystown,
Georgetown admitted to breaking into the home of Deoraj Jagdeo and stealing two gold chains valued $20,000 and $1.8M in cash on July 10 at Georgetown.
Police Prosecutor, Sergeant Gillian Simmons told the court that on the day in question, the complainant left the items in his home and left for Berbice around 11:00hrs.
She said that Deoraj Jagdeo returned home around 20:00hrs later in the day and discovered that the items mentioned in the charge were missing. Simmons related that the complainant reported the matter to police who contacted Hyles and searched his home.
Police recovered some of the missing articles in the home and several other articles they suspected he bought with the stolen money.
He was arrested and charged.
The items, Simmons said, were seized and lodged at the police station.
