Guyana suffered a heavy loss against the British Virgin Islands (BVI) last night when the girls’ competition of the 2016 Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) Championships bounced off at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
Hosts, Guyana lost 18-54 in their first game in the four-team group. Guyana’s offence collapsed despite them creating some easy chances.
The Guyanese girls, though putting up a spirited effort, did not make any of their shots in the first quarter while only scoring five points in the entire first half with BVI going into the half with a 25-5 points lead.
Guyana threw up 56 attempts, connecting on only 12.5% from the field with zero shots falling from beyond the arc after attempting seven from three-point range.
Forward, Shauliqua Fahie dropping 24 points for BVI while collecting a monster 21 rebounds.
Guyana’s best scorer was Jada Mohan who had 11 points on 4-29 shooting from the field. Mohan, however, exited the game with an ankle injury midway through the fourth quarter and did not return for the Guyanese.
