A new champion will be crowned when the Region 1 final of the Digicel Schools Football Championship is held tomorrow at the Kumaka Recreational ground in Moruca. Defending champion Port Kaituma suffered a 3-2 defeat to giant killer Hosororo who will now face North West Secondary that beat host Santa Rosa 4-2 in a penalty shootout after regulation time ended nil-all on Tuesday.
In yesterday’s encounter, Hosororo took the lead on the stroke of half time through a penalty kick taken by Travis Inniss. They then stretched their advantage in the 59th minute when Dave Emmanuel raced on to a ball played from centerfield to fire past the goalkeeper. Port Kaituma responded with a penalty in the 67th by Elizah Williams, but one minute later Shem Ramadcindo provided some more comfort when he smashed a powerful shot into the far corner. Port Kaituma’s retort came three minutes into extra time courtesy of another penalty, but shortly after the final whistle blew to signal victory for Hosororo and a spot in the final.
