A 19-year-old contract worker was yesterday remanded to prison on a charge of illegal gun and ammunition possession. He made an appearance before Magistrate Annette Singh in a City Court.
Andrew Budhu of Enterprise Garden, East Coast Demerara pleaded not guilty to the allegation which stated that on July 8, at Wellington Street, Georgetown, he had a 9mm Taurus Pistol in his possession when he was not the holder of a firearm licence.
It was further alleged that on the same day at the said place he had five live rounds of 9mm ammunition in his possession without being the holder of a licence.
Budhu also denied this charge. Police Prosecutor, Corporal Adunni Inniss did not relate any facts of the matter to the court. She indicated that the defendant has no antecedents.
Magistrate Singh remanded the unrepresented man to prison and instructed him to return to court on August 3, for trial.
