It appears that no one wants the hot seat position at the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA).
That body will be without a substantive Chief Executive Officer (CEO) when the current one, Myrna Pitt, goes off this week after signaling her intentions not to pursue a renewal of her contract. That contract had expired a few weeks ago.
Pitt had been with CH&PA over a decade but together with top officers of the authority has been facing severe pressure for a number of multi-million dollar projects.
Last month, she submitted her letter of resignation.
According to officials of the Ministry of Communities, earlier this month, the CH&PA Board, at a special meeting approved for Pitt’s deputy, Denise King-Tudor, to take over the position from Wednesday, July 13.
However, King-Tudor on Friday last declined the position. As deputy, she would have performed duties of the CEO in the past.
Today, as a last resort, a recommendation by CH&PA’s Human Resources Department to have the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Communities, Emil McGarrell, perform the duties of the CEO, is likely to be considered during a Board meeting.
That department wants the matter to be treated urgently because of the critical importance of the presence of a CEO.
CH&PA is under pressure also as there are more than 20,000 applications for house lots and turn-key homes on file.
