A Regma Primary school pupil has secured 551 marks to top Region Ten at this year’s National Grade Six Assessment examination.
The top student is Erenelda De Souza, the daughter of Marquita De Souza.
Erenelda said that when she got the results she cried. “But they were tears of joy, because I’m so happy. I expected to do well, but I never dreamed of topping the Region.
Her mother, who reacted to the news by emptying two bottles of Champagne on the school premises, shared similar sentiments.
“I know my daughter was working hard so I naturally expected her to do well- maybe top the school, but never in my wildest dreams did I expect her to top the Region.”
The proud mother described her daughter as a bookworm, whom she felt sometimes ‘pressured’ herself too much.
“She used to really study a lot- sometimes I thought that she was overdoing it, but now we ‘re seeing the results and I’m really happy that she took her studies so seriously.”
Erenelda’s teacher, Kerensa Hermanstyne, described the child as a good student and one that she expected good results from- though not such good results.
I am very elated with her results; a little surprised, but very happy nonetheless.
Ms. Hermanstyne said that there were other students in her class that she had expected such results from, but who apparently did not perform as well, hence her surprise.
The teacher who said that she has been teaching for the past twenty years, pointed out that this has been her very first grade six class.
Head Teacher of Regma Primary, Joanne Yaw, applauded Erenelda’s performance and expressed happiness with the results.
