Robin Kawall, 32, who gave his address as Sideline Dam, Lusignan, and then 1416 Church Street, New Amsterdam, was on Wednesday found guilty of drug trafficking, when he appeared before Magistrate Rondel Weever, at the Fort Wellington Magistrate’s Court.
The case before the court was that on April 25, last, Kawall was proceeding west along the Bush Lot Public Road, West Coast Berbice, when he became involved in an accident, but failed to stop at the scene.
The police gave chase and Kawall was intercepted at Plantation Rising Sun, and escorted to the Fort Wellington Police Station. He appeared in court the following day and pleaded guilty to the traffic offences that included driving under the influence of alcohol, dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of the accident.
He was fined a total of $57,500 with an alternative of three months in prison.
According to Police Prosecutor, Constable Garfield Edwards, on the day in question, when the police were about to secure Kawall’s car, HC 5761, they discovered two bulky parcels in the trunk. The contents turned out to be marijuana weighing four thousand, three and fifty grams, and worth approximately $6.5M.
Kawall who was represented by Attorney, Sasha Roberts, denied any knowledge of the substance in his car, but he was found guilty by the court, and was sentenced to three years in prison.
