The Guyana Mixed Martial Arts Karate Association (GMMAKA) competed at the Best of the Best Martial Arts Karate Championship on Sunday last and achieved encouraging results with all six students that competed well.
The students were under the charge of Master Lloyd Ramnarine; five (5) from Black Cobra Karate and the other from Iron Fist Karate Club.
Asif Ramjohn of Black Cobra Karate Club copped gold medals in the 8 – 10 traditional Kata and Weapon forms, while Jaffar Ramnarine in the Free form Kata also won gold. Zafar Ramnarine in the 11 – 15 Black belt category earned silver in the traditional Kata while Alliyah Ramnarine earned the bronze.
In the 35 and over there were silver medals for Ms Norlyne Paul in the traditional form and Isaiah Busby in Kumite, which is sparring.
Commenting of the performances of his students, Master Ramnarine said it was a fair competition and that he is satisfied with their achievements. Ramnarine informed that he is preparing 20 students for a competition in Suriname in August and the GMMAKA will be hosting a bar–b-que and fun-day at the National Park on July 31st.
The GMMAKA is made up Black Cobra Karate Academy located at La Parfait Harmony Phase 2 Westminster, Eccles Martial Arts Academy and the Iron Fist Karate Academy at the New Diamond/Grove Primary School.
