A brace of goals each from Ralph Williams and Kerry Barker propelled Camille’s Institute to a huge 7-0 win over their East Bank counterparts, Canadian School of Arts when the Digicel Schools Football Championship, East Bank leg continued yesterday at the Leonora facility, West Coast Demerara.
Camille’s Institute wasted no time in imposing their will on the boys from the Canadian school as they showed them the art of scoring, a lesson it is hoped they will learn in time for the next competition.
The teams could have hardly settle following the opening whistle, Camille’s Isaiah Sam netting from an acute angle on the first run down to send his team ahead, while his teammates and fellow colleagues who were taken by bus to the venue in a 32-seater along with some teachers erupted in cheers.
The support of the mostly female students in the stands could have been heard every time a Camille’s student touched the ball which added more energy to their play.
Williams got into the act with his first goal and the team’s second in the 7th minute while Barker fired in his first in the 31st minute from an indirect free kick just inside the 6 yards after the stand in goalie Krishnashiva Sankar handled the ball in the area, to make it 3-0.
Sankar had replaced Junior Charlie who picked an injury to his finger after the first goal was scored; he was replaced after the score was doubled. The Canadians never really threatened Camille’s goalkeeper, Deshawn Fernandes. Five minutes before halftime of the 80 minute match, Williams completed his double.
Ranaldo Sim blasted the first goal in the second half which came in the 55th minute as Camille’s went 5-0 up. Barker achieved his brace in the 65th minute while Gavin Abrams sealed the deal for the winners in the 70th minute to confirm a place for Camille’s Institute in the next round of matches.
