Police were up to last night hunting for three bandits, who shot a 15-year-old boy during a brazen robbery at a South Ruimveldt mechanic shop.
Jahmaul Lewis, a trainee mechanic, was shot above the left eye at around 15.00 hrs, when one of the robbers discharged his firearm in the Lot 1 Wren Avenue and Aubrey Barker location. He underwent surgery and his condition was reportedly listed as stable.
Police have examined CCTV footage on which the attack was recorded. The mechanic shop is reportedly run by the owners of a taxi service.
According to reports, the teen and other workers were in the mechanic shop, when three men entered. One of the robbers, who had a handgun, relieved an employee of an undisclosed sum of cash and a cell phone.
Kaieteur News understands that the bandit then discharged a round, which struck Lewis in the face. The robbers then escaped.
Lewis, who lives a corner away from the mechanic shop, was rushed to the Accident and Emergency (A&E) unit at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC) where he reportedly is listed as stable.
His mother, Denessa Lewis, said that her son left their Lot 76 Wren Avenue, South Ruimveldt home at 7:00hrs yesterday for work.
She was at home when someone from the mechanic shop came to her with the news.
Upon her arrival at the hospital, Lewis stated that she was informed that her son had been shot and was in the emergency room.
She also mentioned that the doctors told her that her son would have to undergo a brain scan.
