Days after he reportedly confessed to killing a 25-year-old mechanic, who was found dead with multiple
stab wounds in his bedroom, 21-year-old Rayon Jones was yesterday charged with murder and remanded to prison.
Jones, who resides at 212 Fourth Avenue, Bartica, is accused of murdering Pooran Baljit of 57 Madewini, Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara on June 9, during the course or furtherance of a robbery.
It was reported that Baljit was stabbed to death right next to the room his parents were sleeping in at their home located at the aforementioned Soesdyke address.
He was discovered with his head hanging out of his bedroom window with his body drenched with blood from the stab wounds he received to his shoulder and stomach.
The accused was arrested on Sunday at the Georgetown seawalls after he was lured there by his girlfriend. It was reported that he told investigators that he had entered Baljit’s bedroom earlier that night, and had hid himself until the victim fell asleep. He reportedly told detectives that Baljit woke up suddenly, and they had had a scuffle.
The father of one was represented by Attorney Latchmie Rahamat.
The Attorney requested for the preliminary inquiry hearing to be done by paper committal. This, she said, would save judicial time.
City Magistrate Judy Latchman remanded the accused to prison until July 5, when he will appear before the Chief Magistrate for assignment.
