-Matches on today at Leonora, Hauraruni
Canadian School of Arts and Science (CSAS) recorded the most emphatic victory to
date in this year’s Digicel Schools Football Championship after inflicting a 7-0 drubbing on Supply Secondary yesterday, at the Leonora Synthetic Track facility.
The lanky Lucas Demkoski rired in a hat-trick in the 13th, 18th and 35th minutes, while Elijah Johnson added a brace in the 14th and 27th minutes and there was one apiece for Abdullah Sanmoogan in the 16th and Shivharan Loknauth in the 42nd.
The CSAS started the game in attacking fashion and gained the ascendancy after thirteen minutes through Demkoski, who wormed his way past two defenders to beat the goalkeeper to his right.
One minute later, the strapping Johnson entered the scoresheet with a powerful strike from long distance following a clever pass from Loknauth.
Sanmoogan then added his name to the list of scorers with a nice solo effort, picking up the ball just outside the penalty area and weaved his way past his markers to stab home from close range.
Three minutes later, Demkoski returned to add another goal to his individial tally with a neat finish from a Johnson pass inside the penalty area to make it 4-0.
He then returned the favour to Johnson, who beat the keeper to his left this time as they took a handy 5-0 lead which was stretched even further on the stroke of half time when Demkoski completed his treble with a fierce shot that was parried into the goal.
In the second period, Supply gave a more determined display, allowing just one other gaol off the boots of Loknauth, but was clearly outclassed by their much bigger opponents and succumbed to the heavy defeat.
Play in the Championship resumes today with two matches at Leonora and Hauraruni.
At Leonora, Leonora Tech take on Professional Learning Institute and at Hauraruni; St. Cuthbert’s Mission collide with Hauraruni.
