Fruta Conquerors and Georgetown Football Club (GFC) erased similar one goal deficits to earn full points in their respective matches against Pele and the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) when the Stag Elite League Finale recommenced on Saturday night at the Leonora Track and Field Facility, West Demerara.
GFC recorded their first win in the final game downing the Army. Pele had taken the lead through a Julian Joseph goal in the 30th minute an advantage they enjoyed for a long period to the extent that they were habouring thoughts of pulling off a win but Conquerors kept their composure to not only neutralize Pele’s advantage but to also take the win.
One of the Tucville based side’s consistent scorers; Jahall Greaves pulled them level in the 71st minute before 16 year-old Jeremy Garette nailed the winning goal two minutes later.
The GFC/GDF clash was a tough battle with no goals coming in the first half. It was the boys from Camp Ayanganna who broke the deadlock 63 minutes into the match compliments of an Olvis Mitchell effort.
But the young GFC side was focused on taking their first win of the FINALE and they did it in style. Kenneth Oparaemetuche equalized for the Bourda Boys in the 74th minute before the winner was blasted in by Keron Solomon just one minute later.
With the final four teams now decided, the semi finals will be played on Thursday at the same venue when GENESIS winners and the top team in the FINALE Slingerz face off with the 4th placed Pele from 18:00hrs.
The feature match of the night will see the 2nd and 3rd placed Conquerors and Alpha ‘The Hammer’ United matching skills.
