Minister of Security, Khemraj Ramjattan yesterday led a team including Dr. Verasammy Ramayya; ‘B’ Division Commander, Ian Amsterdam and representative of the Office of the Prime Minister, Gobin Harbhajan to meet with
worried Berbice fishermen and their families on the recent piracy attack.
The meeting at the No. 66 Village Fishing Complex says numerous concerns were raised by fishermen.
The Minister assured the gathering that justice will be served.
Five persons were charged last week after a deadly piracy attack on a Guyanese fishing boat in Suriname waters.
The crew members were tied to anchors and dumped overboard with only the captain being found alive. The body of one fisherman was found caught in nets.
The five persons charged on Friday were fishermen from Corentyne.
