A police Detective Constable and his female doctor friend are now nursing serious injuries after they were ambushed and attacked by a woman who is said to be the ex-wife of the policeman.
Although information is sketchy, it is understood that around 20:00 hrs on Sunday the Detective Constable who was on duty with the Berbice Independence Float Parade was chatting with a number of persons, including the doctor at the corner of Main and Pitt Streets.
The woman who is reportedly estranged from the policeman subsequently armed herself with a knife and a bottle and attacked the policeman. Stabbing him to the back of his neck and cutting him on his face. The doctor received a lash on her head.
The woman was subsequently overpowered and taken into custody. She is expected to be charged shortly.
The policeman and the doctor were rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital where they were treated and sent away
