A 26-year-old gold miner was remanded to prison on a charge of intent to commit murder, after he made
an appearance before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan yesterday, in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
It is alleged that on May 24, last, at Komung Landing, Puruni, Samuel Boucher of South Ruimveldt Park, Georgetown with intent to commit murder, wounded Shanella Rodrigues.
The unrepresented man was not required to plead to the indictable charge.
Police Prosecutor, Inspector Neville Jeffers told the court that the accused and complainant are known to each other. He said that Rodrigues operates a shop in the area where the incident occurred.
According to the Prosecutor, on the day in question, the woman and the accused were involved in an argument over money Boucher had owed her. It was during this exchange that she was injured.
Jeffers strongly opposed bail for the accused citing the fact that the victim is still hospitalized.
His objections were upheld by the Magistrate, who refused to grant bail to the accused and transferred the matter to the Bartica Magistrate’s Court for June 15.
