Dear Editor,
It was with both seriousness and amusement that one read the recent letter (Stabroek News 27/5/ 2016) by former PPP President Donald Ramotar. The title of the letter was, “Guyana can prosper if democracy is the foundation of government”. No one can disagree with the title of his letter. However, we have several questions for him.
If Mr. Ramutar believes so much in democracy then;
(i) Why does his party believe in Communism, the antithesis of democracy?
(ii) Why did the PPP insist on monopolizing all political power in Guyana during the past 23 years?
(iii) Why does his party believe, like Stalinists and the worst kind of Communist, that power comes through the barrel of a gun?
(iv) Why did the PPP deny the people of Guyana democracy, in the form of Local Government Elections, for the past two decades including while he was the President?
(v) Why did the PPP insist on denying the citizens of Guyana (such as the residents of Linden but not only those citizens) freedom of access to information, and essential condition for a functioning democracy?
(vi) Will the PPP work with the APNU-AFC to ensure that the vestiges of Communist/Socialist ideologies are removed from the Constitution of Guyana, and that an instrument is created which is truly the foundation of a functioning democracy?
