British Guiana Combined Clubs selection led by Victoria’s Maurice Moore defeated Suriname Rio Soft Shoe football team in 1959. Rio opened their 1959 campaign with an emphatic 4-nil victory against Juventus Soft Shoe team at GFC. Rudy Ramdhanie scored a double in the 20th and 35th minute. The other goal scorers were Bruns Strok in the 15th minute and Viggelland in the 52nd minute.
First international match vs Combined Clubs at GFC
Combined Clubs led by Maurice Moore won 2-1. George Ferguson sent the locals ahead in the 15th minute. The tourist equalized in the 2nd half when star player Rudy Ramdhanie give Wyntuin a through pass that he converted with a bullet like shot that give the brilliant Ted Nurse no chance. Alvin Steel sealed victory for the locals 5 minutes from full time. Wolves beat Rio 2-nil at GFC. Goal scorers for Wolves was Frankie Ford midway in the first half, in the second half Ken Halley scored in the 47th minute to give Wolves victory.
Rio Leveled International Series with Combined Clubs at GFC
Goal scorers for Rio were star player Rudy Ramdhanie and Buckhove, Lance Dyal scored a lone goal for Combined Clubs. Red Banners beat Rio at GF Bourda 1-nil. The nippy center forward Eddie Caetano was the goal scorer who from an acute right side angle saw goalkeeper Belfor get his hands to the shot but failed to hold it properly.
International Series Decider at GFC
Combined Clubs won 2-nil. The heroes were George Ferguson and George ‘Amigo’ Dyal. Combined Clubs’ skipper Maurice Moore was presented with the championship trophy by Mayor Forbes Burnham.
