The Washington D.C Jammers wrapped up their 2016 Guyana tour Friday night with another emphatic victory against Colts combined at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall. Colts used its allowance of five guest players for the first time in the series, but still went down 70-80 to the Jammers that completed a clean sweep of a four-game series.
Colts brought in Ravens centre, Jermaine Slater; Ravens forward, Ryan Gullen; Guardians guard, Nikkoloi Smith; Sonics guard, Jason Squires; and Pacesetters guard, Ruel Ritch to help them overcome the D.C Jammers.
However, the additional talent could not help the inevitable, as three key players for Jammers continued their dominance throughout the series that began last Friday. High-flying forward, Winston Robinson and seasoned guard, Glen Stokes had yet another outstanding showing with 15 points apiece. Steffan Farley pitched in with 10 points to help the Jammers cruise through the series.
For Colts combined, Nikkoloi Smith had 21 points while Gullen scored 11 points and Slater nine points and nine rebounds. Colts had also loss to Jammers in a blowout last Sunday with its original squad.
In the preceding game, Georgetown Masters defeated Diplomatic Corp 61-47. The D.C Jammers had opened its tour with a win against National Basketball Championships fourth place finisher, Dyna’s Ravens last Friday night.
It was expected to play Linden’s Retrieve Raiders last Sunday but Raiders declared its unavailability owed to the Linden Town Week Celebrations. One of the key members of Raiders, Abdulla Hamid was named National Coach for Guyana’s Girls Under-16 team.
Colts filled in after Raiders pulled out and was blown away in Jammers’ second game. Pacesetters, which placed third in the National Championships, tested them on Tuesday, but the United States-based Guyanese affiliate prevailed.
Usually, Jammers play Guyana’s national team, but the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) indicated that with its focus on the Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) U-16 Championships in Guyana in July, there was little time to prepare the national senior men’s team.
It was then decided that the D.C Jammers will play the top four clubs from the National Club Championships where they have emphatically won all four games.
