Just over one month after convening a meeting to have the sport resuscitated, executive members of the Guyana Association of Scrabble Players (GASP) will commence their programme with an Intermediate tournament on Sunday, May 22 at Herdmanston Lodge, Queenstown.
The younger players aspiring to position themselves among the top seeds will have the perfect opportunity to elevate themselves following a decision of the GASP executives to debar the top seeds from participation. Those players are National Champion, Abigail McDonald, Leon Belony, Moen Gafoor, James Krakowsky, Fred Collins and Ewart Adams.
Consequently, the players to watch are Yvonne Murray, Carlton Murray, Michael Benjamin, Maurice Munru and Carlton Murray among others. During the period of inactivity the Enterprise Scrabble Club has had a vibrant programme spearheaded by Kamta Ramnarine and those players would be sharp while using the impending tournament as a continuation of activities.
The same could be said of Yvonne Murray who has been organizing monthly games at her Nandy Park residence among such players like Benjamin, Ulric Harris, Munru and Ruby Cummings. These players will also be in great form which will make for a very competitive encounter.
The competition will consist of six games, three on each side of the lunch break and players are asked to arrive by 09:30hrs for registration, half an hour before starting time. Those members with boards and clocks are asked to walk with them.
