The Cavalier Sports and Tour Club (CS&TC) has organized several events that will coincide with Golden Jubilee celebrations and local racewalkers are expected to be in action Sunday May22 when their parent association stages the 50th Independence Anniversary Race Walk.
Activities get underway at 6:30hrs when the walkers convene at ‘Burnham’s Bust’ Public and Vlissengen Roads Kitty and proceed to the Independence Arch, Brickdam for the finish.
Racers will compete in several categories including Male and Females (senior and juniors). Trophies and medals for the winners in the various categories have been donated by Prime Minister, Moses Nagamootoo and Minister of Indigenous People’s Affairs, Sydney Allicock.
Meanwhile, President’s College student, Douressa Thompson sealed off yet another victory when the CS&TC held a similar event, also in commemoration with the 50th Independence Anniversary on May 15 last.
The race consisted of participants all from the President’s College and commenced at the institution’s Golden Grove ECD location, proceeded to the village market before the racers retraced their steps to the place of origin. Tashena LaRose copped the second prize, while Audrey Heywood and Amber Jacobs finished in the 4th and 5th positions respectively. Trophies ad medals were donated by Minister of Communities, Fitness Express, Kanhai’s Guyana’s Electrical Services and Woodpecker Trophy Stall.
