The police are investigating an incident where an overseas volunteer was raped by three men at Kwakwani, Region 10. The incident reportedly occurred on the night of May 6, last (two Fridays ago). The three men were arrested and placed on bail.
Yesterday, Divisional Commander Calvin Brutus confirmed that the matter is under investigation.
According to information received, the young volunteer, who came here to teach children in depressed communities, went to a bar with some friends in the village where she was working. On her way back home, the woman, who is in her early 20s, was reportedly accosted by the three men who took her to a desolated area and raped her.
She reported the incident at the police station and the men were arrested.
Kaieteur News was told that the file will be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions for further advice.
The young woman has since been transferred from that village.
