Regal Sport has thrown their support behind the Georgetown Softball Cricket League Inc for the staging of its Independence T20 softball tournament slated to commence on May 20.
Sherryann Persaud of Regal Sport yesterday presented a cheque to GSCL Inc. Assistant Secretary/Treasurer Russel Jadbeer at the entity’s location 69 Seaforth Street, Campbellville.
She stated that they are happy to be associated with the tournament since its Guyana’s 50th Independence Anniversary. Persaud said that they are looking forward to a successful tournament adding she is passionate about the game. Persaud was positive that the tournament will produce some exciting matches and called on the fans for their support. She informed that the recently established Regal Sport sells a variety of sporting equipment including cricket, football, volleyball, chess, gym equipment and cricket uniforms.
Jadbeer thanked the entity for their assistance.
The tournament will be played in the open and masters’ categories with an entrance fee of $50,000. The winning team in the open segment will pocket a trophy and $100,000 and the runner up a trophy and $50,000. The masters’ champion will take home a trophy and $150,000 and the runner up a trophy and $50,000. Entries will be closed on May 13 while the launching and draw will take place on May 17 at 17:00hrs at GNIC SC.
Malteenoes Sports Club and GNIC SC are the venues indentified for the hosting of matches. The competition which is being held in association with the National Sports Commission will continue on May 21 and conclude on May 22.
