Trinidad-based Guyanese, Lionel D’Andrade continued his impressive season with a second place finish at
the Nestlé Fourth Annual Health Fair and 5km Road Race at the Queen’s Park Savannah, Port of Spain.
D’Andrade was second in 15:44, behind Trinidadian Curtis Cox (15:36) while Collin Pereira finished third in 15:53; Guyanese, Kelvin Johnson (16:29) was fourth in the race that was held to celebrate 150 years of Nestlé Good Food, Good Life”.
“This race was a bit tricky for me after racing this morning in a hilly 10km race. My legs were not so ‘fresh’ for this 5k, but I ran the first mile with (Kelvin) Johnson very fast; in 4:45 and then I dropped my pace, feeling tired in the heat and humidity,” D’Andrade said.
“I was trailing in third place and then I took the lead in the last mile then just about 400m to the finish line, Curtis Cox edged me out because I was too tired to sprint ahead,” he added, stating he feels really good about the time which is his best for the year.
D’Andrade will compete in the Granny Luces 15km race scheduled for this weekend and then the following weekend in the Sea to Sea Half Marathon and 10km Road Race in Tobago. More than 5000 people and as many as 3000 participants attended the Nestlé Health Fair and 5km race.
